Jefferson Oregon Events & Places of Interest
The first Jefferson Oregon Mint Festival was first held in 1957 by the Jefferson Lion's Club who created the festival in celebration of the abundance of mint being farmed in the area. This gave the City of Jefferson the distinction of being named the "Mint Capitol of Oregon." The Mint Festival is currently part of the Chamber of Commerce events and will so be an independent festival.

The first Festival of the Flowers was held in 2007. It was conceived to "celebrate the timeless beauty of the garden", to showcase the organizations, non-profits and agri-businesses in the greater Jefferson area and to showcase historic Main Street in the community of Jefferson. The Festival of the Flowers is held on the first Saturday of May.

The Frog Jumping Day in Jefferson Oregon is a true slice of Americana as one of the many fun-filled festivals held annually in small Mid-Valley communities. The frog jumping contest is fun for all ages, drawing 100 contestants last year. No experience is required, and you don't even have to own a frog. The festival can provide one for you.

The Santiam River is a tributary of the Willamette River, about 12 miles long in western Oregon. Through its two principal tributaries, the North Santiam and the South Santiam rivers, it drains a large area of the Cascade Range at the eastern side of the Willamette Valley east of Salem and Corvallis.

The Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge is situated in open farmland near the confluence of the Santiam and Willamette rivers in the middle of the broad Willamette Valley. The 2,796 acres of Ankeny NWR is located in the floodplain of both the Willamette and Santiam Rivers. This contributes to the large number of wetland habitat located on the Refuge. Fields of wildlife food crops are interspersed with meandering creeks with bottomland Oregon ash forest and mature big-leaf maple in mixed coniferous forest.
